Lamichhane has been selected to play in the Indian Premier League
(IPL).
Lamichhane was bought by the Delhi Daredevils team in the auction that took today place for the 11th edition of the League. He was bought for a base price of 2 million Indian rupees.
The 17-year-old will hence become the first Nepali cricketer to feature in the League that draws leading cricketers from all around the world. Among the 578 players, he along with Hamza Tariq (Wicketkeeper) from Canada are the only two players representing Associates. The sensational leg-spinner who was once compared with Australian legend Shane Warne has set a reserve price of INR 20 Lakh.
Birth: Sandeep Lamichhane was born on August 2, 2000. He is a right-handed batsman and a leg-spinner.
Career:He was first seen playing in Chitwan district by Nepal’s ex-Coach Pubudu Dassanayake, who then brought him to Kathmandu. He made his List A debut for Nepal on April 16, 2016, against Namibia in Kathmandu. He has played 9 games so far taking 12 wickets. He is also leading the Nepal U19 captain since December 13, 2016.
U19 Cricket World Cup Bangladesh 2016:Lamichhane’s magic began in Nepal U19 journey in ICC U19 World Cup 2016 where he grabbed 14 wickets, and also became the second highest wicket-taker of the tournament with an average of 17.07 in 6 matches. His best figure of 5/27 came against Ireland U19 where he took a hattrick, the first Nepalese cricketer to achieve such record in the U19 world cup.
He was featured by International Cricket Council (ICC) as the Future Stars XI after the conclusion of the tournament.
Next Shane Warne? Lamichhane was playing against Pakistan U19 in the U19 World Cup and he produced some impressive turn and took the Pakistan batsmen by surprise.
