iPhone 16 Introduces Capture Button for DSLR-Like Photography Experience
For the first time, Apple has added a new button to the iPhone 16 series. At an event held on Monday night, Apple revealed the new "Capture" button on the iPhone 16 series models.
Located below the power button on the right side, this button can be used in various ways for taking photos and videos. According to Apple, users can easily switch between landscape and portrait modes using this button. It features a touch sensor, which determines its function based on the pressure applied.
If you're performing other tasks on the phone and open the camera, a single click of the camera control button will open the camera app. Once the camera is open, clicking it again will take a photo. Holding the button while clicking will open the camera app and switch to video mode.
A gradual touch allows the zoom feature to be used, with zoom in and zoom out for capturing photos or videos. Gradual touches will also lock focus and exposure. Double tapping the button will open the camera preview menu, where exposure or depth can be adjusted. Swiping on the button opens adjustment options for zoom, exposure, or depth.
You no longer need to search for the camera app or touch the display to take photos or videos. The button supports various camera functions, and it is also expected to be compatible with third-party apps. It remains to be seen how developers will utilize it.

Initially, the button will support Snapchat. Later on, it is expected to be used in visual intelligence features. By pointing the camera at an object, information about the object will be displayed on the screen. For example, if the camera is pointed at a restaurant board, visual intelligence will search online for details and ratings of the restaurant.
The camera can also be used to identify plant names. It is said that you can easily perform Google searches and use ChatGPT directly from the camera. For instance, if you take a photo of an object and seek information about it, you can ask ChatGPT directly from the app.
Additionally, the camera control button can be adjusted through its settings. Users can configure what happens with a single click or double-click through the settings. The button includes haptic feedback, providing a shutter button-like experience.
